How PartnerPortal works
Most partnerships between small organizations fall apart because one side is doing a favor. Everything here is built around the opposite: matching on what you need and what you can offer, so both sides walk in with something to gain.
Matching
Every organization lists what it needs and what it can offer, from a shared vocabulary of 33 categories. Everyone else is then ranked by how well the two profiles fit in both directions.
Two-way match
They offer something you need, and they need something you offer. These rank far above everything else, and are marked 2-way wherever they appear.
One-way match
Only one direction is satisfied. Still worth seeing, but be honest about what it is: a request for a favor rather than an exchange.
Shared focus areas — the causes you work on — nudge the ranking, but never create a match on their own. Caring about the same thing is not the same as having something to trade.
Seeing nobody? Widen what you list on either side, browse the full directory rather than just your matches, or invite an organization you already work with from the button on your dashboard.
Proposals
-
Open a match and propose
The terms start pre-filled from the overlap that produced the match. Each side can only commit to things it has actually listed as an offer — you cannot be signed up to something you never said you could do, and neither can they.
-
They accept, decline, or counter
The proposal waits on whoever received it. They can accept it as it stands, decline it, or change the terms and send it back — at which point it waits on you, with their terms on the table, and you have the same three answers. The thread and the history stay with it however many times it goes back and forth. You can withdraw a proposal you sent at any point before it is accepted.
-
It becomes an agreement
Accepting generates a public summary page you can send to a board or a funder without them needing an account. You can rotate that link, or revoke it entirely, from the partnership itself.
You can hold one live proposal or partnership with any given organization at a time. Finish or end the current one before starting another.
After you agree
A partnership can complete or end, and the difference is deliberate.
- Completing takes both sides
- You each mark it complete, and each record whether the other side delivered what it committed to. Nobody grades their own homework, and one organization cannot decide alone that the other one is finished.
- Ending takes one
- Either side can end a partnership on its own, with a reason that goes to the other organization. Requiring agreement would mean being held to a partnership by somebody who simply never answers.
Delivery verdicts and the reason a partnership ended stay between the two of you. Neither ever reaches the public summary page.
Privacy
- Your shortlist is private. Saving an organization is a bookmark, not an approach — they are never told.
- Profile views are counted, never itemized. You see how often your profile was opened, never by whom.
- Contact details are not published. The public profile page carries no email or phone number. Signed-in organizations see them on your profile, one organization at a time.
- Links are opt-in. Your website and social links appear on the public page only if you tick the box.
- Messages need a proposal. Nobody can message you out of the directory — a thread only exists on a proposal, and closes when that proposal settles.
- Meetings can be shared. A meeting proposed inside a conversation waits on the other side, who can accept it, suggest another time, or decline. Once agreed it is on both calendars and either of you can download it or move it — a move asks the other side again. Meetings you add from the dashboard stay your own.
Common questions
Do I have to verify my email?
Not right now. Verifying shows partners the address behind your account is real, but nothing is blocked while you have not.
Can I change my terms after sending a proposal?
Yes, while it is still waiting for an answer — open it from your dashboard and edit the terms. Once the other side has accepted, the agreement is fixed: it is a record of what two organizations agreed to, and one of them editing it afterward would make it worth nothing.
What happens if the other organization closes its account?
An agreement you actually reached survives, and its public summary keeps working — it is a record of something that happened, and it is not theirs alone to delete. Proposals that never became agreements are removed.
Someone has a profile but has never signed in. Why?
Profiles can be created by invitation, and stay unclaimed until that organization opens the link and sets a password. An unclaimed profile is invisible — it does not appear in the directory or in anybody's matches.
Why can I not propose to an example organization?
The ones marked as examples are fictional, shown to demonstrate how matching works while the directory is small. They have nobody behind them to accept or decline, so a proposal would sit unanswered forever.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account. It asks for your password, and it cannot be undone. Agreements you reached with organizations that are still here stay, so the other side does not lose its own history.
